Democratic County and Senate District Conventions on April 21

As a result of the redistricting litigation, the Texas Democratic Party has revised our convention process. The process will now begin with Senate District and County Conventions on Saturday, April 21, 2012. There will not be Precinct Conventions.

The convention process is how the Party conducts important business such as revising our Rules, developing our platform, electing our officers and SDEC representatives, and electing delegates and alternates to the represent Texas at the Democratic National Convention to nominate our candidate for President.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the County and Senate District Conventions can be found on our website. If you have specific questions about your County or Senate District Convention, please contact your County Chair.

The most frequently asked question is regarding eligibility to participate in each level of convention. To clarify:

To be eligible to participate (i.e. vote) at the COUNTY/SD convention, an individual must be a registered voter as of 30 days prior to the CONVENTION (specifically March 22, 2012), live in the geographic area covered by the convention, and sign an oath of affiliation either on the day of or prior to the convention.

Only those eligible individuals who are physically present at the COUNTY/SD Convention who sign-in count toward the results of the presidential preference poll. Anyone who signed an oath of affiliation form prior to the convention but is not physically present is not counted.

To be eligible to be elected as a delegate or alternate FROM the COUNTY/SD Convention TO the STATE Convention, an individual must be a registered voter AS OF April 21st, live in the geographic area covered by the convention, and sign an oath of affiliation either on the day of, prior to, or within 5 days of adjournment of the convention. NOTE: Anyone who does not meet the eligibility requirement to be a voting participant at the COUNTY/SD convention may still be elected to the next level as long as they meet these requirements. They may attend the COUNTY/SD convention as a guest but may not vote.
